The Spiffy Solar Animal Abatement System is designed for ease of use and speed of installation. We’re committed to helping you provide a smooth residential solar panel critter guard process, from start to finish. We love educating our clients on how to use our product properly so they can feel comfortable with the process from the very beginning.
There are a few key practices that ensure a secure and lasting installation.
Our simple, secure solar panel protection guards for animals lets you easily and affordably seal up residential PV systems from pest intrusion with an animal-safe, reliable critter guard.
Spiffy Solar does not offer installation services. We offer a reliable pest deterrent system for your flush-mount solar panel clients.
The aluminum hardware expands and contracts at the same rate as the aluminum solar panel frames to which it’s attached. This keeps it from coming loose from extreme weather conditions found on roofs.
Little cutting or other modification is required and the wire mesh clips attach with nothing more than a pair of linesman pliers. Approximately 50 – 75 clips are required per 100 lineal feet of coverage, depending on system configuration, and other variables.
Instill peace of mind for yourself, your clients and your third-party owners. Pigeons, squirrels, roof rats? Our critter guard can handle all of them. We are confident in the quality and value of our products. We believe that after using them you will agree and want to order more.
Unfortunately, the act of opening and using the product makes it nonreturnable. Therefore, it is our policy to not accept returns. In the case of orders of no more than thirty days old, unopened and/or unused, accommodations can be made.
How Spiffy retains distinguishes itself from competitors for solar critter guards:
First, assemble the two parts of the Spiffy Clips. Simply insert the straight portion of the hook into the hole in the washer. Note that the washer can only be inserted one way. Do not rock or wiggle the parts to get them together. This may deform the washer and prevent it from holding tight. It is best to just grip the wire firmly, close to the straight end, and push them together.
Instead of preassembling, feedback from users has suggested that installers prefer to assemble these pieces themselves, as they can carry more up onto the roof, in their tool belts, with hooks in one pocket and washers in the other. Assembled parts take way more space only allowing a few to be carried in their belts.
Insert the wire only far enough to provide room to grip it with pliers, later.
Next, bend to create the height of the screen needed. few degrees beyond 90, pointing inward where it will meet the roofing material. The most readily available straight edge for this bending is, of course, a module frame.
This bend adds rigidity to the screen, customizes the vertical height, and allows it to rest in place before attachment. This preliminary height needs to be around one-half inch taller than the desired finished installation height.
While exerting downward and inward pressure on the screen, insert the Spiffy Clip hook into the opening closest to the bottom edge of the module frame. Turn the hook and pull, catching the hook on the lip on the underside of the module frame.
Grab the wire with pliers and hold firm while pushing the washer into position. Do not pull outward on the wire as this may deform the hook itself.
Trim the excess wire from the clip.
The clip does hold the screen against the module, but more importantly, it prevents the screen from moving upward, maintaining downward pressure against the roof. With proper installation, the friction of the screen against the roofing material makes the bottom of the screen immovable in either direction.
An experienced team of two can get most installations done in half a day. Pre-installation roof cleaning may add an hour or two. Critter guard installation specialty contractors sometimes separate the task of cleaning and installation with specialized teams doing one or the other.
