Protect rooftop solar installations with Spiffy Solar critter guards for solar panels. Designed for solar contractors, installers, pest control companies, and other professional installers, the Spiffy Solar system uses PVC-coated galvanized steel mesh and Spiffy Clips™ to create a physical barrier around the perimeter of solar panels.
Solar panel protection clips from Spiffy Solar are an integral part of our two-piece solar installation protectors. The innovative design makes it easy to install, yet durable enough to last in a wide variety of environments. Together with the screen, the wire mesh clips have been proven to deter a number of rodents that can cause significant damage to solar panel installations.
If you have invested in a system, or your company’s reputation rides on the quality of your installations, solar panel protection is a must. Spiffy Solar™ has made it easy and affordable to keep your panels safe from birds, squirrels, and other small vermin.
The simple two-piece system helps keep birds, squirrels, and other common rooftop pests from accessing the area beneath solar panels. Installation requires no roof or module penetration, and mesh screens and clips are sold separately so you can order the components needed for each system.
Spiffy Solar's solar panel critter guard system combines heavy-duty wire mesh with all-metal attachment hardware. Choose between 6-inch and 8-inch mesh based on the solar installation and pair it with Spiffy Clips™ to secure the screen to compatible solar panel frames.
Each roll provides 100 linear feet of solar panel wire mesh.
Choosing between Spiffy Solar's 6-inch and 8-inch critter guard mesh depends primarily on the solar panel installation. Both options provide 100 feet of mesh and work with Spiffy Clips™ on compatible solar panel frames.
Choose the 8-inch mesh when the installation requires the additional screen height. Each roll measures 8 inches high by 100 feet long and uses ½-inch mesh openings.
The PVC-coated galvanized steel screen can be used as a physical barrier to help prevent pigeons, squirrels, and other common rooftop animals from accessing the space beneath solar panels.
Choose the 6-inch mesh for lower-profile solar installations. Spiffy Solar recommends this size for systems with approximately 4.5 inches of gap or less.
Each roll provides 100 feet of screen manufactured specifically at the 6-inch height.
Approximately 75 Spiffy Clips are required for every 100 linear feet of coverage, although the exact quantity depends on the solar system configuration and other installation variables.
Because Spiffy Solar sells the mesh and clips separately, installers and pest control companies can order quantities appropriate for each project.
Spiffy Solar critter guards create a physical barrier that prevents common pests from accessing the underside of flush-mount solar installations. The same system can provide both bird control for solar panels and protection against squirrels.
Pigeons can nest beneath solar panels and leave debris around the installation. Spiffy Solar's PVC-coated galvanized steel screen creates a barrier around the solar array to prevent access to the protected area underneath.
Unlike bird spikes, which pigeons and squirrels can move through, the solar panel bird mesh guard system blocks access around the perimeter of the installation.
Squirrels can create additional problems around solar installations because rodents chew surrounding materials. Spiffy Solar has encountered cases involving damage to wiring, connectors, and junction boxes.
Installing the solar squirrel guards around the perimeter of the solar array helps prevent squirrels from gaining access to the protected area beneath the panels.
Spiffy Solar's critter guard system gives professional installers a simple way to add a physical pest barrier to compatible rooftop solar installations.
The two-piece installation process does not require roof or solar module penetration. Spiffy Clips™ attach the screen directly to compatible solar panel frames.
Spiffy Solar uses PVC-coated galvanized steel screen designed for exterior use. The 8-inch screen features ½-inch mesh openings and corrosion-resistant construction.
Choose between 6-inch and 8-inch mesh, with each size supplied in 100-foot rolls. The 6-inch version is recommended for lower-profile systems with approximately 4.5 inches of gap or less.
Spiffy Solar sells the mesh and Spiffy Clips™ separately, allowing installers and pest control companies to purchase quantities appropriate for the dimensions and configuration of each solar installation.
Spiffy Clips™ will attach to any module that has a lip on the bottom edge of the frame. Some modules have enclosed frame sides, eliminating the lip on two or sometimes four sides and leaving no place to attach the hardware hook. These include some Kyocera models, SolarWorld 2.5 models, and SolarWorld 3.0 models.
Check the panels themselves or the module specification sheet before ordering Spiffy Clips™ for your project. A quick look at the frame extrusion cross-section will show whether the frame has a lip on which to attach the clip.
When properly installed, our pest protection system has been proven to keep out the types of pests most commonly found beneath solar installations. There is one North American intruder against which our product is not recommended: raccoons.
Critter guards can be expected to last for many years. However, installation techniques and local factors play a big part in how well they perform and how long they may last. Solar panel system owners can expect to replace their guards no more than once in the life of their system, if at all.
